There's a lot of misinformation about the topic of artifacts. So, in this tutorial I want to share with you my Hero Wars artifacts leveling guide for beginners and intermediate players to make sure that you build a winning team that has great synergy.
For those who don't know, Artifacts are powerful equipment that enhances the stats of your Heroes, making them deadlier in a fight.
Most guides and tutorials will tell you to level up all your heroes first artifact to 3 stars and upgrade it to level 25 then when it's 4 star you upgrade it again to level 50.
That's half truth. The problem is leveling up the first artifact for all heroes.
The correct approach is to match your reason for having that hero in your team with your artifacts, skills and glyphs leveling.
For instance, take a popular hero such as Jorgen, his first artifact boosts his magic attack. If you're running a K'arkh team then leveling up his weapon doesn’t make sense at all. Instead you'll want to upgrade his book first so that he can provide armor and magic defense to the team.
But if you feel like doing the opposite of what I'm recommending then kudos to you, but my strategy works for me and that's how I'm able to beat players with more power than me. Simply because I understand synergy and the role of each hero in my team.

Now, with that covered let's move on to finding out how to get these artifacts.
How to Find Artifacts
Before activating artifact you will need to collect all the necessary fragments for it and then Awake it. You can collect fragments in expeditions, artifact chest and from the Merchant.
The merchant sells the artifact fragments for Artifact Coins, which you can obtain from the Chest and Valkyrie's Grace.
There are also artifacts Events where you can collect a lot of these fragments but events change all the time so you'll never know when the next one for artifacts will come. But when it does, make sure that you're ready to collect as many fragments as possible.
Another way is to use Emeralds to open the Artifact Chest.
Honestly, they are rare and can be hard to find. So, the most consistent but slow method is to do your daily expeditions under Valkyrie. There's no better way than valkyrie's favor.
Different Types of Artifacts
Each hero has 3 different artifacts which are:
Artifact Weapon
You can start to upgrade artifact weapon from 20th level of a hero and it is a unique artifact for each hero so that its fragments can't be used for any other hero's artifact.
The bonus from this artifact is temporal which is activated when a hero uses his first ability that is why the stats from it aren't displayed in a hero's stats.
The bonus works for all the team for 9 seconds.
Artifact Book
It passively increases Hero's stats - dodge, attack, health, armor, etc. and this bonus is permanent.
The book can be upgraded from 25th level of the hero and it isn't unique artifact so that its fragment can be used to upgrade the same book for another hero.
Artifact Ring
Artifacts of this category passively increase the Hero's main stat - Agility, Strength or Intelligence and this bonus is permanent.
The ring can be upgraded from 30th level of the hero and it isn't unique artifact so that its fragment can be used to upgrade this ring of any hero with the same main stat.
For artifact leveling, you will need artifact essences for weapons, artifact scrolls for books and artifact metals for rings. You can find all that in Artifact chest and Expeditions.
All artifact resources can be divided into 5 categories:
- Common (grey), you can use them to upgrade artifacts from 0 to 25 level
- Uncommon (green), you can use them to upgrade artifacts from 25 to 50 level
- Rare (blue), you can use them to upgrade artifacts from 50 to 70 level
- Superior (purple), you can use them to upgrade artifacts from 70 to 85 level
- Flawless (orange), you can use them to upgrade artifacts from 85 to 100 level
Conclusion
If you ever find yourself confused then remember this, with artifacts it's not about which artifact is best, but rather which hero in your team is best suited for that artifact.
To make things a whole lot easier for you here's a general guideline.
- Level up weapons for damage dealers.
- Level up books for your tanks and healers
- and level up rings for support, control
However, that's just a guideline you have to adjust for every situation and depending on who you're battling.
For instance, in some cases for the adventures and campaign missions you'll need to have armor and magic protection stats to go pass some encounters.
